Thema: rear frame

Hello All, are there any mods that could be done to my rear frame on the Sorp Sports? I have heard that poeple have moddified it so that oil goes in the frame? Any tips etc would be great.

Thanks
Mick

Mick, I've never heard of a subframe that holds oil (this ain't no Buell), but that doesn't mean no one's done it. I have heard of people manufacturing custom oil tanks for better mass centralization, but that requires of course a very specific skills set, and there may be better things to do with your time/money.

There's lots of metal that can be removed from the stock subframe, like the helmet lock, handle, passenger footpeg brackets, and half of the muffler bracket. Nothing beats an aluminum sub frame, however, for weight reduction.

I think they're hard to find. Tim Barker used to make them, and Elaine Seasly has a custom one her husband made for her. I'm not sure how useful these are if you plan on keeping your bike street legal.

Good luck!

Hello Mate, Thanks for the info.and cool link. The bike is in a bit of a mess and Iam looking at tidying it all up really, I believe corse meccanica do make subframes, will look into it.

Thanks
Mick

OK, Chief!

I talked to Mark @ Corse Meccanica a year or so ago about the subframes. (They're from Barker, BTW), and he can't get them because Barker isn't making them.

But good luck--I bet there are a bunch of people who would want one... They're surprisingly simple.

Mine is a Barker that I got off the internet last summer.

Cut the frame behind the drivers seat. Instead you can screw on an alloy-carrier for the oiltank/ light > one person only.

May be you can use the main-frame covering the motoroil, but the sub-frame hasn't enough capacity (and what will be the advantage?).

The Aprilia Rs 125 sub-frame is much lighter and whit some work it fits. But then you need the RS plastics too.

Also, Bikeworx apparently made some subframes, although I'v never been able to get Galen to admit it:

OK. the word on the commercial subframes is that they are no more. Both
CorsaMeccanica and Tim Barker made them. Mark told me that when he
moved to his present location, he had left the jig among other things
in the old shop only to find that the new owner had thrown them in the
junk.
Tim Barker "recycled" his jig for something more useful after he
decided , based on sales, that there was no further interest.
If and when I ever get to it - occasionally, I have to warn my upkeep
and pay the bills - I am ging to make a jig to fit my Barker frame.
Welding the frame is then easy from my local body shop if I bring him
the fitted tubing.
